Background of the Study
Non-monetary incentives are increasingly being recognized as an effective way to boost employee productivity and morale, especially in organizations where budgetary constraints limit the potential for monetary rewards. These incentives can include recognition programs, professional development opportunities, flexible working conditions, and job enrichment (Durojaiye & Akinyele, 2023). Airtel Nigeria, one of the leading telecommunications providers in the country, operates in a highly competitive industry where employee productivity directly impacts customer satisfaction and organizational performance. The company’s operations in Kebbi State are influenced by local economic conditions, market competition, and workforce dynamics, where non-monetary incentives can play a critical role in enhancing employee motivation and performance.
In the telecommunications sector, where employee retention and satisfaction are key to maintaining service quality, non-monetary incentives are crucial for keeping employees motivated, especially in areas where financial compensation alone may not suffice to improve productivity (Olowookere & Bello, 2024). Despite the widespread use of non-monetary rewards, limited research has been conducted on the specific effects of these incentives on employee productivity in Airtel Nigeria, particularly in Kebbi State. This study seeks to explore how non-monetary incentives influence employee productivity and to determine their role in Airtel’s performance in the region.
Statement of the Problem
Employee productivity is critical to Airtel Nigeria’s competitive advantage, yet many employees in the Kebbi State region may not be adequately motivated by financial incentives alone. The effectiveness of non-monetary incentives in this context remains underexplored. It is unclear how Airtel Nigeria’s non-monetary incentive programs influence employee productivity in Kebbi State. This study aims to fill this gap by assessing the impact of these incentives on employee performance, providing valuable insights for the organization to optimize its human resource strategies.
